We have been learning how to create mood and atmosphere in our writing.

I choose the mood happy and the beach always makes me feel happy.

We are learning to analysis text and look at how authors create mood and atmosphere by using language features. Here is a screencast I created with Luisapeta of our analysis of the text Egyptian diver breaks world record for longest dive.

My Zoo Experience

My Zoo Experience 

It all started on wednesday 18th of November when Room 9 and about 8 people from room 10 were in the  same bus. I was sitting next to my best friend Luisapeta. When we were on our way to the Auckland zoo we each got our own notebook some of us turned it into a diary. On the way to the zoo Soloia’s dad Edwin let us use his phone to take some photos but we ended up taking a lot of photos. We saw lots of things like 2 people on the roof, Rainbows End and the sky tower.

Finally we got to the zoo and we were put into our groups. I was in Edwin’s group with Soloia, Ila, Mahnna and Patrick. We took some more photos. We went in to the zoo and the first thing we did was we went to see the giraffes,

zebras and ostriches. Then we went to see the Meerkats Soloia and I wrote down some stuff about Meerkat. After seeing the Meerkats we went to see the lions but we could not see them. Soloia and I wrote down some things about lions. We found out that lion's roar can be heard up to 10km away. We went to see the waterbuck, Nyala and Rhinoceros then we went to see the flamingo. We went to see the elephant me and soloia went back to see the flamingos and we ended up seeing our best friend Luisapeta.

 We went to see baboons after seeing the serval we couldn’t see because they are a master of hide and seek. We went to see the seal it was swimming on its back around in circles. We went to go see the penguins and we also saw the other school. It turns out there were meant to be 6 schools at the zoo but there was only one other school there. We went to see the tuatara and there was this box thing that had holes in it. In the holes there was a fake snake and a fake lizard.  Soloia and I got Patrick to put his hand in it. He screamed like a girl two times. It was so funny then we told him that they were fake. 

One of the best parts about the zoo trip was Edwin let us get some ice cream. It was so yummy. 

 

We got back on the bus and went back to school on the way to school me and Soloia fell asleep on the bus. Soloia woke me up when we got to school. I went home and took a bath and went to sleep at like 6:00 or 7:00.

Second week of the holidays

Some of the things I have been doing in the second and last week of the holidays are,

The first week of the holidays has gone very fast. We went on a road trip to Wellington. We stopped and saw lots of things. My favourite was going to Te Papa and seeing the giant people that looked so real it scared me.
It was very windy in Wellington. We walked up Mt Victoria and almost got blown away.

Home Learning Tasks Thursday 27 August

Reading 

I read some more on EPIC today. I finished the Geronimo Stilton story. It was really good. I would recommend other people to read it.

Maths

I practiced some basic facts again today. This time I tried stage 6. There were some harder questions like adding and subtracting to 1000. It was a bit tricky. But I got 97%.

This week has been fun doing our learning at home. 

My favourite activities has been maths. I like maths more than reading and writing.

I also like making the backgrounds on the slides to make them look more interesting.

I am looking forward to going back to school on Monday.

Today for reading I read this story for 15 minutes

I like Geronimo Stilton books and this one is about the Mona Mousa Code. I am going to read some more later to find out what happens.

our writing tasks today is still about heroes it was hard to think of some heroes in my life

Maths

For maths practice today I did the number of the day.

I like doing the number of the day to practice place value of numbers and also to practice spelling when I had to write twenty six.

I also practiced my basic facts and got 96% on stage 5.  It was pretty easy and I liked doing it.
